Dear St. Boniface Parents
On Friday, March 18, 2016, we continue this year’s focus on Religious Icons in our Religious Art Enrichment Series.
This class will focus on deepening the students’ prayer life using icons. Each student will choose one of six icons that is personally meaningful, adorn that icon, then take it to church for veneration. It is a very beautiful time with our students and we hope you can join us as a volunteer!
This year, we are using religious icons to teach the stories of our Faith. Icons are visual theology and date back to the early centuries of the church.
To the ancient, largely illiterate society after the time of Christ, this art form taught and preserved our Faith with holy pictures of saints and events. Icons are ancient prayer tools, and we are using icons, not books, to teach lessons about our Faith in a very visual, interactive, entertaining way.
This program was developed to enrich our students’ knowledge about our Faith and support what they are learning in their Religion Classes. Our students learn these lessons during Religious Art Enrichment in an engaging, fun way, and I hope you will consider volunteering during one of the classes listed below!
Please consider volunteering to help the students choose and adorn (glue embellishments on) their icons, then escort them to church for veneration. You are welcome for one or all the classes, which will begin in the St. Boniface gym. Times are listed below:
8:30 – 9:25 Grade 4
9:30 – 10:25 Grade 5
10:30 – 11:25 Grade 6
We also invite you back on Friday afternoon at 2:10 in the church. Fr. Tim will bless our icons before Stations of the Cross.
Please contact either Danette Brown 742-7913 email@example.com or
Annette Wilson firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer.
